LJSanta!
Not strictly about LJS’s books, but… hey, it’s my Tumblr and I’ll post what I want.
LJSanta is a fanfic project that has run, on and off, for the past few years. It’s a Secret Santa style thing, in which you sign up to write a fanfic for someone else, and someone writes a fanfic for you in turn. In my opinion, some of this fandom’s best fanfics have come out...

Tentative details on the Secret Circle TV show
“The Secret Circle scoop”, or how CW butchers yet another book series.
Fair disclosure: Some of my commentary may sound overly snarky. I’m not apologizing for that. I’m tired of books being turned into TV shows and movies in name only, because all the stuff I loved about the source material (neat secondary characters, “small moments”, etc.) inevitably get...

LJS's "official statement"
LJS has finally made an official statement. Of course, she’s vague. If you haven’t read the emails, you may not fully grasp what she’s talking about.
But that means, officially, that Midnight is likely the last Vampire Diaries book written by LJS. The new trilogy, if it goes ahead, may still bear her name (just as “V.C. Andrews” is still on VCA books, even though...

LJS: "I've been fired from writing the Vampire...
Before I go further, I want to make VERY CLEAR that LJS has not made any official statements on her website or through Twitter or any other avenue I can find. The links below all lead to “emails”, allegedly from LJS to fans. I would like to think LJS wouldn’t lie about something of this magnitude and that fans wouldn’t make it up, but … stranger things have...

Secret Circle TV show in the works
First of all (and unrelated to the subject at hand), I apologize for the long delay in posts. I sprained my ankle in September and … yeah.
Onward, CW is adapting The Secret Circle for TV.
I’m not hopeful. I don’t like CW’s “vision” for The Vampire Diaries and, unlike seemingly every other fan of vampires and werewolves, I’m not a member of Cult Joss, so the...

New TVD book called "Phantom"?
From LJS’s latest blog entry:
“Also, I have been finished with Midnight, the final book in the last Vampire Diaries trilogy about a month ago and am waiting (you can imagine how eagerly or maybe—if you’re not an author—you can’t) for the edits. I’ve also signed on for a new trilogy and finished the first book in it, Phantom. So there is more Vampire...

L.J. Smith "finished Midnight"
On her Facebook, LJS said:
I’m so happy because I finished Midnight, the third book in the “Damon’ trilogy. It’s 600 pages long, and I still need to edit it, but … whew! Feel like dancing!

What to call NotS and HoV together?
Of all LJS’s books, Night of the Solstice and Heart of Valor were the most obscure and, because of their scarcity, the least read. That meant they didn’t come up in conversation much, so they were never really given “a series title”. You can talk about The Vampire Diaries as a whole unit or world, but the duology never really got a name that stuck.
Some people (including...

Stefan's Diaries will be TV based, NOT LJS based
Found via vampire-diaries.net:
From HarperTeen: STEFAN’S DIARIES are an exciting new project based on the VAMPIRE DIARIES novels written by LJ Smith and the TV series developed by Kevin Williamson & Julie Plec. The prequel story is based on the lore from the show, taking place during the Civil War.
Emphasis on “based on lore from the show”. L.J. Smith, apparently, is NOT...

LJS Abbreviations
All fandoms rely on abbreviations. It’s easier to type “LJS” than to use “L.J. Smith” all the time, for example. Of course, after you’ve used the abbreviations for so long, they can seem like words in their own right, and whenever I’m talking with fellow LJS fans in person, I always have that awkward moment: Should I say “Dark Visions” or...

Common misconceptions, part 2
As is the case with any fandom that’s been around for 20+ years, LJSdom is full of drama, the equivalent of “urban legends” (e.g., Who exactly won those Night World prizes from the first NA printing? It sure wasn’t me, and believe me, I bought a lot of postage for entries.), and so on.
4. Spellbinder and Enchantress are the same book: number three in the Night World...

Common misconceptions, part 1
In terms of the LJS fandom, I’m old school. I read The Vampire Diaries when they were originally released—back in 1991. As a collector, I both welcome and dread the waves of reprints. Having new covers is always nice, particularly for the harder-to-find books, but new reprints means new readers, ones who often don’t check things like copyright dates and such, and thus make false...

New Vampire Diaries trilogy en route; Strange Fate...
TheBookseller.com reports that LJS is writing a new Vampire Diaries trilogy: “The new books by L J Smith will be prequels to the original books and will be called Vampire Diaries: Stefan’s Diaries.”
LJS echoes this news on her blog and in a comment on Facebook (verbatim, except for a few typo corrections by yours truly):
That estimate shouldn’t still be up. Instead I have...

Welcome to LJSbooks!
This is the Tumblr chapter of the fabulous LJS Cover Resource. That’s run by Lorraine. I handle the Twitter and the Tumblr in an unofficial, supplementary capacity. Translation: Don’t blame her for my screw-ups.
L.J. Smith (also known as Lisa Jane Smith, Lisa J. Smith, and Ljane Smith) may seem to have come “out of nowhere”, depending on how old you are. On the contrary,...
